Forward Ever, Backwards Never

IVRPD is thrilled to announce that “Forward Ever, Backward Never” will return to Isla Vista to proudly celebrate Black History Month and honor the intellectual and cultural importance of celebrating Black culture within our community. Following last year’s successful debut which drew over a hundred attendees, this year’s event will feature a live reggae and soul music from Alla McKeon and The Rahkas, other live performances, food, and a full-length feature film screening of Marvel’s “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”. This year’s installment of “Forward Ever, Backward Never” also features sponsorship and support from IVRPD’s event partners at UCSB’s Office of Black Student Development (OBSD), UCSB Black Student (BSU), the UCSB A.S. Commission on Culture, Arts, And Joy Justice (CCAJJ).

“Forward Ever, Backward Never” will take place on Tuesday, February 28th, 2023 at Little Acorn Park from 4pm-8pm in downtown Isla Vista. The event will start at 4pm, beginning with a land acknowledgement from the Apanish Foundation, followed by scheduled programming until 8:00pm. This free, outdoor multigenerational event is open to all ages. A limited quantity of free food and film screening tickets will be offered while supplies last. IVRPD encourages guests to access the event by bicycle, skateboard, by foot, or other means of alternative transportation. Little Acorn is accessible via Santa Barbara Metro Lines 11, 15x, 24x, and 27. Guests may request ADA accommodations by emailing ivrpd@ivparks.org or dialing (805) 968-2017.
