How to Participate in the Juneteenth Santa Barbara Digital Diaspora

We have dreamed up a celebration that will share and uplift Black Santa Barbara residents across social media platforms and have drafted a program that includes meditation, hair care tutorials, spoken work and visual artwork all led by local Black creators. If you have yet to upload your video to our Google Folder , this is your friendly reminder!

Feel free to express yourself and record in your milieu. We love seeing the diversity of Black people! Individuals, businesses and organizations are welcome to participate — consider using the following format:

  • General Intro:  Name, Origin (if applicable) , Agency or Group memberships

  • When did you start living in Santa Barbara?

  • Point of self or family pride:

  • History of celebrating Juneteenth here and other places:

  • What is your definition of Black joy?

  • A story of resilience and community building?

  • How would you like to see our community grow?

*Please consider the following when recording*

Place your phone or laptop on a stable surface or have a friend record for you

Find and position yourself near a  good light source

Consider filming in a quiet place where background noise is minimized

Please make eye contact with the camera, we want to connect with you

This will be shared publicly, so please consider this before sharing certain content and intimate family pains or traumas

If you have questions, reach out by email. Please upload your video to our Google Folder. All are welcome to make a tax-deductible contribution to support Juneteenth Santa Barbara through our fiscal agent.
